GIANTS WIN!!!
Some game, huh?
So the pregame show was even worse than expected - American Idol is on Fox, we get it. A red carpet for the super bowl? Really? Jeez. You really need to play John Travolta out to the sound track of Saturday Night Fever? We've not big fans, but he has made other movies (successful ones, even) since then. Did we really need to see some behind the scenes clips of making commercials for airing during the super bowl? It was pretty funny to hear one of the broadcasters say that they'd be doing football only from this point forward. This was one of the better half times in recent memory - although the recent geriatric half time shows are a little troubling, but we don't want to see Hanna Montana, either. We weren't paying real close attention (we were cooking), so it sounded OK even if Tom Petty's band was scary looking, crypt keeper style.
We were very happy with the Giants defensive play and felt bad that Eli Manning had to take the interception on that botched catch. Manning's scramble from danger and bomb for a big gain was inspiring - best play of his career. We didn't understand what the New England Patriots were doing with their final possession - it seemed as though getting into field goal range and settling for over time never entered their collective mind.
Our prediction wasn't that off; we had the Giants winning by 3, so that was correct. All the predictions we heard were really high scoring - but defense wins championships, folks. In any sports.
Head out to that parade! Go Giants!

PREDICTION: NY Giants 24, New England Patriots 21

That's how we see it. We all have heard how Plaxico Burress sees it and Tom Brady's reaction. See what the odds makers are saying here. Have a fun, safe Sunday and GO GIANTS!

THE GIANTS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!

We've criticized them all season and we've spent the last month (since the loss to the Patriots) apologizing. The Giants are NFC champs and it's time to take a championship back from the New England fans.
Before the loss to the Pats, we were nay sayers - our token line was, "The Giants can beat the bad teams, which is what a good team should do, but when it comes to the elite of the NFL, the Giants can't contend." Well, we were wrong. Even in the loss to the Pats, the Giants showed us something and ever since, they've found a way to win. Did they get hot at the right time? Is everything finally clicking? Are they really the ultimate road team? We don't know and we don't care - we're just enjoying the ride.

Giants beat Cowboys!!!

Does it get any better? OK, a Super Bowl win would be better, but we'll take this and still go home at the end of the season, not matter how it turns out, happy. Check out some stats and info on Giants.com.
We were predicting gloom and doom, but we've never been so happy to be wrong - except maybe the week before. We lapped up TO's tears and laughed at Wade Phillips' complaining that the better team lost or whatever he said...
One thing is for sure, the Giants are rolling. We're looking forward to next week!

Giants prove us wrong and it feels SO GOOD

We were wrong - we admit it. We predicted a first round elimination for the New York Giants all season wrong, and they made us look like idiots. And we love it.
The Giants gave the Bucs a fine beating and first quarter aside, we couldn't be happier.
Again, the first quarter was ugly, but the Giants played great the rest of the way, only allowing 1 score (a touchdown) over the final 3 quarters. The offense made a great adaptation after getting 3 and outed by Tampa several times in the first quarter but from then on, all was well. Eli seemed to be throwing well and everything seemed to come together at once. Can they beat the Cowboys? Three weeks ago, we would have said no way but after the last two games, we have hope - we believe. GO GIANTS!

Giants lose game and Shockey

The Daily News has an article posted, but those are the highlights: no win, no Shockey.
A second Giants member has a 200+ lb man roll over his leg and it breaks in the same season and still, no one takes our idea of weight limits seriously. Oh well. We consider Shockey to be the only dependable receiver on the team (who didn't get the ball enough), and now he's out for the rest of the year. Another first round elimination is emanate.

Giants RB Derrick Ward breaks leg

$%&#*! (Thanks, QBert.) The Giants leading rusher, Derrick Ward, is out for what we assume will be the rest of the year. Hopefully, Brandon Jacobs will have recovered enough from the hamstring injury to return next week. Check out the article at the Yahoo! Sports.
This is totally weak. We view Brandon Jacobs as a short yardage back and a extra blocker/decoy only. On the other hand, Phili isn't that good.

Giants come up big late and beat Bears

It wasn't pretty, but the Giants came up with a win. While its true, all wins do look the same the next day in the standings, you can't help but notice the inconsistencies of this Giants offense. Check out the article at the New York Post (oh, their headlines are so witty!).
We're feeling like the Giants will squeak into the playoffs and go down in the first round. Their offense is just too flawed.

Me run backwards: Giants lose to Vikings

It was bad enough that Eli Manning got picked 4 times, it was bad enough that the Giants offensive line couldn't stop anyone, and it sure seems as though the Giants drop a lot of passes... Then Eli Manning ran backwards for how many yards? 20? 30? Yeoch. Yes, the Giants beat the bad teams, but they don't do a great job of showing up against the good teams. Check out The New York Post's view on the game here, or pick your media outlet here. Check out our Giants page here.

Giants win and keep playoff hopes alive

We weren't especially pleased with the Giants' offensive performance today (or the referee's), but that's life sometimes. In any event, the Giants defense did a solid job and came up with 2 picks - can't be upset with them. Our feeling is that if you're offense can only scratch up one touchdown, they're not going to win any Super Bowls, but that remains to be seen. Check out Yahoo! Sports or any of the local papers or Giants.com for details.

Giants record: 5-2 So, maybe the teams the Giants are playing stink, but good teams should beat bad teams. So with the Dolphins coming up (in London? what the HELL was the NFL thinking? weren't they paying attention when NFL Europe folded? der, Mr. Commissioner, der...) and then the by week, the real change looms over the horizon? Can the Giants beat a good team? With the Red Sox in the world series, we sure hope so.

10/16/07: After the 0-2 start, the attitude was pretty bleak, but going 4-0 since has started playoff talk. It's valid, particularly when you take a look at the remaining schedule. But when you talk playoffs for the Giants, you have to take a hard look at who they lost to (good teams while they were admittedly not ready on the defensive end) and who they've beat (bad teams). But, the Giants easy schedule aside, you can't escape the truth that there simply aren't that many good teams in the NFL this year. Can the Giants get to the playoffs? Absolutely. Can they win the super bowl? Wouldn't count on it.

As the season begins, it's hard to know what to make of this team.
The defense failed to fold opposing offenses under 30 points in the first two games and went 0-2 despite good offensive play. What can you say about a team that elects 38 day hold out Michael Strahan, who did not come to training camp, one of it's four captains? Then on September 20, fusterated after the 0-2 start, we get this quote: "We're asking the media and the fans, if you all know how, to help out the New York Giants' defense," Pierce said. "We would appreciate it. Send it to Giants.com." Uhm, OK Pierce. Try not to let up so many points, huh?
We think they heard us!
Who were these guys who showed to play a reasonably decent game against Washington (who they nearly always find a way to beat)? We admit we were scared after the first two, but where the Giants go from here is anybody's guess. We think it'll depend on which defense shows up on any given sunday.
