MyTriState.us New York Giants 2008 Blog: Giants eliminated from playoffs
"D'oh!"
Well, that was quick - not that the Giants have been inspiring much confidence lately anyway, but it was still sad to see the Giants go down to the Philadelphia Eagles as their reign as Super Bowl Champions steadily comes to a close.
In two previous meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles, our New York Giants won the first meeting in a tough Sunday night game full of anxiety in Philadelphia. We went to their second meeting at Giants Stadium in the good old Meadowlands only to be disappointed by the Giants poor play and decision making.
So what happened? Well, for one, Plexico Buress happened - as annoying as he was and ultimately infuriating as he became, he was an important part of the offense even when Eli Manning didn't throw him the ball: many defenses double teamed him and were constantly guarding against the long ball and this opened up other opportunities for the running backs and tight ends. For another, Eli Manning never seemed to adjust to the wind and threw two interceptions - maybe not because of the wind... maybe Manning doesn't have that power arm to cut through the heavy winds. Ok, he doesn't - but, he is good at airing it out, but that's not really going to work against the wind. The Eagles also did a great job on 3rd down, especially in the second half - hats off to the Eagles, they played pretty well. Oh, and two missed field goals - they weren't exactly gimmes, but you can't miss field goals in playoff games if you expect to win.
So there you have it: the New York Giants 2008 campaign is over, but there's always next year - assuming they don't shoot themselves in the foot again... or the leg.
Eagles beat Giants
Sure, the Giants lost the game to the Eagles 20-14, but that score is in no way a reflection of how badly the Giants actually played. Yeah, we know: they clinched a playoff spot. Hooray! That's wonderful; we're pumped that the Giants are returning to post season action again. But they played sooo badly and made such strange choices... Take the first quarter, for instance. The Giants went for it on fourth down when they were in field goal range. It was a cold day, but it wasn't that windy, we don't care what that windbag on FOX said. (ha - hilarious! you see what we just did there?) Read more...
Giants Plaxico Burress Faces Felony Charges
As we all know, Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg at a Bronx night club. We heard local radio WFAN sports talk host Mike Fancesa say that he had a source he trusted tell him that the club did not call the police but wanted to call an ambulance. Antonio Pierce, who was at the club with Burress, apparently pocketed the gun, gave the bounces the bullets and the club agreed to let them leave and sort it out themselves. Pierce then...
