Stephon Marbury is a never ending problem for the Knicks
"How do you solve a problem like [Stephon Marbury]?" No idea.
Now that the Knicks have banned Stephon Marbury, he said he wants to play or be released and won't accept a buyout, for whatever reason, we can't guess - he just wants to screw the Knicks hard, but we'll get back to that. Cuttino Mobley is apparently very ill and may retire, given the Knicks a hole at guard, and they still don't seem interested in Marbury playing for them. That says a lot right there - we'd rather have some scrub playing than Marbury. But, what options do the Knicks really have? They clearly don't want Marbury around their team in development, and if they release him and no one picks him up, they're stuck with his salary. We don't think there is enough of a guard shortage in the NBA to warrant someone picking up Marbury's contract and the baggage that goes along with it, which is probably why the Knicks want to buyout his deal. At some point, Marbury will have to decide that if he sits around and collects the rest of his money, will he have damaged his reputation to the point where no one will sign him, or, will he have so much money that it won't matter to him? Does he think he's not signable and doesn't want to leave a lot of money on the table? We'd say this was a major distraction, but really, the Knicks aren't any good anyway. But they might be... in a few years.
