Founded in 1962, the New York Mets are two time World Series winners. Based in Queens, the Mets are the most recent of New York professional baseball teams. First playing at the Polo Grounds from 162 thru 1963, then at Shea Stadium from 1964 to 2008, the Mets will open the 2009 season in their new home, Citi Field. The Mets have won two World Series Championships, an improvable win by the Miracle Mets over the 100+ win Baltimore Orioles in 1969 and anti climatic 1986 World Series against the Boston Red Sox that featured the ball rolling through Red Sox 1st Baseman Bill Buckner's legs and allowing the winning run to score.

The New York Mets come out of the All Star break trailing the division leading Philadelphia Phillies by 6.5 games. This isn't an insurmountable lead, but if you've been watching the Mets of late, it sure feels like one. Read more...

State of the New York Mets, May 2009
If you look in the standings and see that the New York Mets are over .500 and around the top of the division, you might feel good about the Mets if you are in fact a Mets fan, but not so fast. Carlos Delgado had hip surgery, and there's no way to know if he'll come back as the same player as he's an older guy. Read more...
State of the Mets after their first 15 games
The New York Mets are now 6 and 9 after their first 15 games. It's not time to hit the panic button, by Omar Minaya better sit up and pay attention. Since Minaya didn't make changes to the core of this team during the off season, we aren't really expecting a different result than the last two years. Carlos Delgado has virtually no range at first base and offensively, we feel he's getting to be a bit of crap shoot. Read more...

Mets sign Gary Sheffield
After the Detroit Tigers released him, the New York Mets signed Gary Sheffield, age 40. Before anyone gets too excited, consider this: the Tigers released Sheffield with the knowledge that he was owed $14 million dollars and that whoever picked him up would only have to pay the $400,000 minimum salary, sticking the Tigers with a bill for over $13.5 million for Sheffield to play for someone else. Relax, Johan Santana isn't on the DL
There's a lot of stuff in the press about Johan Santana and his elbow, but everyone needs to relax. You have to understand that things aren't as bad as they may seem. First, its still spring, and Santana is still getting warmed up, like a lot of players. Read more...
Mets trade for JJ Putz, deal Aaron Heilman, then deal Scott Schoeneweis
The New York Mets have about worn out the trade market, shipping out familiar parts for seemingly shinny new ones. By dealing Aaron Heilman, who reportedly issued a start me or trade me ultimatum and bringing in JJ Putz as KRod's setup man, the Mets have improved their bullpen, even if Putz has a history of injury trouble. We really thought Scott Schoeneweis was a good acquisition for the Mets, and his first season was pretty much a bust, even if his numbers did improve last year... but, he wasn't someone the Mets really trusted when the gave the ball, so this might be addition by subtraction here. Mets sign Francisco Rodriguez
The New York Mets have signed the best closer available in Francisco Rodriguez for a 3 year, $30+ million dollar deal. It's a really good deal for the Mets and sort of a downer for the other closers on the free agent market, or anyone who wanted to trade their closer (Seattle), because KRod's agent was saying he wanted 5 years, $75 million... but that kind of a deal is Mariano Rivera country. Mets 2008 Blog: Mets collapse again, won't make playoffs

Mets 2007 - 2008 Off Season Blog: Mets Sign Santana
The Mets slapped a jersey on Santana, and so it begins - a new era. $137.5 million and a relocation to the east coast are what's new in Santana's life, but the Mets still need to sure up that bullpen. It's all for nothing if they blow it in the late innings. Read more...
Mets 2007 Blog: Mets Collapse
The Mets are going... to play golf! Oh how the mighty have fallen. The Phillies never gave up and the Mets have been playing without life for weeks. Their pitching was terrible and it got them a one way ticket home.
