Burn After Reading Bookmark and Share
Score: 4 out of 5
The Cohen brothers strike again with their witty sleuth comedy, Burn After Reading. The story does tumble along a bit, perhaps not as linear as the average movie goer would like, yet its still progressing. Perhaps the film makers were aware of this, as the inclusion of the CIA supervisor (see the YouTube below) who suggests his subordinate should "report back when... I don't know... when it makes sense," may have been an after thought, someone to sympathize with lost audience members. Fans of Cohen brother movies should be pleased with this - it may not be their finest work (they have a pretty high bar), but still a very good showing. If you hate Cohen brother's movies, this film won't change your mind.
There are some fantastically funny moments in the film, in part from the writing as well as the performances. Brad Pitt has a great delivery (see the trailer), as well as a wonderful setup by George Clooney. We did feel we lost pace with Tilda Swinton's character, but all other plot threads wrapped up... as well as can be expected - check out the flick, you'll see what we mean. Oh, we thought the title sequence was really funny and well done!
