Iron Man
MyTriState Review: 4 out of 5
After seeing 88 minutes, we probably would have cheered for Iron Man if Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark took his lab assistant robot to the park for a game of fetch, but Iron Man was a genuinely entertaining film.
In the realm of super hero films,
Iron Man doesn't stretch credibility as far as some of them do - the whole heart thing is never really explained very well, but other wise, it doesn't seem totally ridiculous. Tony Stark's alcohol consuming, womanizing life style isn't too far from tabloid headlines, nor is the inter office fighting, romanace and corporate scandals - we liked the mix of fantasy and reality. The dialogue was pretty snappy and the performances were well executed. The movie could have moved a bit faster and we would have liked to see a bit more Iron Man, but maybe next time. We thought the big name actors like the aforementioned Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow and not to be left out, Jeff Bridges, would be distracting, but it worked out nicely in most cases - especially Jeff Bridges. Bridges did a nice job, a fun bad guy to hate.
We're pretty certain Jarvis was a person and not a computer in the comics, but oh well - fans will have to deal.
