George Clooney dunked - the backboard shattered and they had to stop the game. There was glass everywhere. This doesn't mean the movie wasn't predictable, but his performance was masterful.
Up in the Air is, for the most part, a light comedy about serious subject matters: the economy, unemployment and life choices. Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick costar and do a wonderful job playing off and supporting Clooney. Once you get to the 2nd act of the film, you know what's up, even if you don't know exactly how they're going to employ the method... OK, let's go spoiler alert mode:

highlight for spoilers:
When George Clooney's character decides that his figurative backpack is empty and he wants to fill it with Vera Farmiga's character, you know its just not going to go down well. It's that part of the movie. As soon as he rings the doorbell, the possibilities fly (that's a bit of a pun: 'fly' - you like that? The movie is called Up in the Air! Brilliant!) through your mind: Is a guy going to answer the door? Is she going to reject him? Oo no she's married with kids. Oh snap! The truth is, it didn't really matter what happened, but the audience knew there was no way he was going to get the girl. Also, breaking up with someone via text is totally effed up. end spoilers:

Up in the air is a fun ride and worth your time. Don't be surprised if Clooney gets oscar consideration. Oh, and as per the conversation that quickly referenced Vera Farmiga's hotness, well, no kidding! But she's not as old as we thought she was - born in 1973.
