Welcome to our blog on AM and FM radio! Uhm, and we're vaguely aware of internet radio and satellite radio.
3 reasons for divorce
During a few ill advised seconds of listening to The Herd with Colin Cowherd (he sucks because he made some really dumb comments about hybrids and the environment - one day, we'll have to talk about people on the radio we actually like, such as the good peeps at WNYC and some folks at the WFAN and 1050ESPN), he was reading off common reasons people get divorced. We don't know why or what this had to do with sports, but, his show is nationally syndicated (which is why we come down on him hard for saying dumb stuff about the environment), so maybe he has to do the news. Anyway, he read something to the effect of the following being the 3 most popular reasons for divorce:
man is or is under 25 at time of wedding
one of the partners smokes and the other does not
the man is 9 or more yrs older than the woman
So there you have it - if you meet 1 or more of these conditions, according to this study, you're on your way to paying an attorney a ton of money (divorce can be really expensive!), rebuilding your life, and fighting about who's copy that is of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Boomer and Carton in the morning still sucks
Maybe we pick on Boomer and Carton more than other talk radio shows, but, its often the first thing we hear in the morning, and, when compared with NPR's Morning Edition, it's easy to get angry. On July 16, 2009, we heard Craig Carton alluding to Sacajawea having a threesome with Lewis and Clark. Read more...
You only die twice: K-Rock is no more
As of 5 p.m. EST Wednesday, March 11th, 2009, New York's 92.3 K-Rock (CBS owned) will change formats again, this time to a TOP 40 format, putting them in direct competition with Z100 (a Clear Channel radio station). We all remember that after Howard Stern left for satellite radio in 2005, the K-Rock new rock music format was changed to Free-FM, a mostly talk format and some rock music on the weekend. This was a pathetic failure, so they switched back to the K-Rock brand but shifted the play list focus to alternative rock from the 1990s and classic rock with Opie and Anthony starting things off in the morning, which has to be one of the worst talk shows ever, making Howard Stern's show look like NPR's 'Morning Edition'. So, the good news is Opie and Anthony are gone, but the bad news is, we're about fresh out of rock stations here in New York, except 101.9 WRXP, “The New York Rock Experience”, which plays new music and classic alternative. So, get ready for WNOW, the new 92.3, playing the exact same top 40 crap as they're already been playing (since the eighties) on Z100.
Boomer and Carton in the morning sucks
At approximately 7:30 AM this morning, we tuned into Boomer and Carton on AM 660 WFAN, the show that ultimately replaced Don Imus as the morning show on The Fan. And they were making chicken noises.
