Blockbuster Online potential shipping delays
[Feb 2010] - Blockbuster.com sent out a mail that the weather might impact the shipping of movies for Blockbuster Online customers; this probably goes without saying, but a nice thought.
The blizzard conditions have caused some shipping delays that may affect the delivery of your movies. We will get them out to you as quickly as possible.
We hope this email finds you, your family and friends safe and well.

PS: uhm, please don't switch to Netflix

Renting in the 21st Century
We rent a lot of movies without ever going to the video store. Online renting has taken off - the selection is better and it's more convenient, but it's not ideal for those spur of the moment needs - but that's where your cable provider comes into play with their 'on demand' service, or whatever they call it.
New business models have risen out of the internet in the guise of trading dvds. How well does this work? No idea, we haven't tried it yet... but it seems like a great idea. We all have dvds (or CDs, for that matter), that sit around and collect dust and take up space, so why not put them to work for you? Although, you have to imagine that this is not a practice that the studios love. Like any online transactions, there are most likely the percentage of unsatisfied users, but all in all, we imagine the system works, a happy social networking community of shut-ins and movie buffs, eating popcorn and other sugar based, fatty snacks!

NetFlix
NetFlix clearly has the edge on Blockbuster by virtue of their watch it instantly feature, which lets you stream content from their vast library, including TV shows that are fairly recent. You can do this on a computer, but if you have a NetfFlix ready device, so much the better.

Blockbuster
NOTE: The Blockbuster on Cedar Lane in Teaneck, NJ is now closed. That place was there forever...
Blockbuster's online service works pretty well; the shipping is fast and the selection is pretty significant, especially when compared to their retail stores, which are slowly disappearing.
